Destination Barcelona: Examining Migration Trajectories and Lifestyles of Skilled Migrants

Part of the Fundació “La Caixa”-funded project Cities in Movement, Socio-Spatial Reconfiguration in the Post-Pandemic Era (PI: Antonio López-Gay), Destination Barcelona is a project that examines the attitudes, perceptions, and everyday geographies of highly-qualified international newcomers to Barcelona. Through an online survey, focus groups, and mental mapping exercises, the project sought to better understand “expats”, “digital nomads”, and other new international residents of the post-COVID city. It focuses specifically at the intersection of tourism, migration, and gentrification in the city, and will result in a number of co-authored articles with geographers, demographers, sociologists, and anthropologists.
